The best-known form of active safety is perhaps the anti-lock braking system, but something as simple as good lighting and mirrors also help to prevent accidents. And because people are the weakest link in the whole, Volvo uses all means to support the driver as much as possible. The Volvo EX90 is therefore equipped as standard with five radars, eight cameras and sixteen ultrasonic sensors, which are linked to an even more astonishing system: Lidar. Together, this technology forms an invisible shield that optimally protects the occupants in all circumstances.

Laser technology looks 250 meters ahead
The abbreviation lidar stands for Light Detection And Ranging and is a detection method that works with laser technology. With this lidar can see flawlessly up to 250 meters ahead, even in the dark. You have to realize that at a speed of 120 km/h you travel more than 33 meters per second. That means that you are already 250 meters further in 7.5 seconds. From the moment of detection, the Volvo EX90’s safety system still has time to take action and warn or intervene.
The Volvo EX90 keeps you sharp
No matter how concentrated you drive, distraction and fatigue are always lurking and are the basis of many accidents. That’s why the Volvo EX90 is equipped with the ‘Driver Understanding System’. It consists of tiny, intelligent cameras that observe the driver. Don’t be alarmed, no one else is watching. If the system determines that you are not paying attention or are tired, a warning can follow to keep you focused. If something serious is going on, the Volvo EX90 will look for a safe place to stop and alert the emergency services.
Calm interior, targeted information
Do you ever get scared by the overload of information on the dashboard of some cars? In the Volvo EX90, peace and quiet reigns supreme. There are two displays that provide all relevant information at the right time in a safe and clear manner. No unnecessary distractions, no cluttered menu structure and intuitive operation. All driver assistance systems are displayed in a logical way and the Volvo EX90 is prepared for fully autonomous driving, if the legislation and the infrastructure allow it.
Even safe after getting out
Another, perhaps not so striking part of the extensive package of safety systems is the extensive interior detection. These radar sensors scan the entire car, including the luggage compartment. If you want to lock the car after juice and there is still a child or pet in the back seat (or in the luggage compartment), you will receive a message and the locks will not be activated at first. In addition, it is possible to leave the climate control switched on, if, for example, a dog is left in the car.
With the new, fully electric Volvo EX90, Volvo raises the bar in terms of safety once again. Because more protection for the occupants and the environment is currently unthinkable.
