Mazda CX-90: larger than CX-60 and with straight-six

One does, the other doesn’t

Mazda CX-90: larger than CX-60 and with straight-six

Mazda releases a first concrete teaser plate of its next new SUV. In Mazda’s international delivery range, the still very young CX-60 is joined by not one, but two new larger sister models. One of them will probably make its debut soon: the CX-90.

Mazda is rapidly renewing its international SUV range. In Europe, Mazda added the CX-60 to its line-up, a rear-wheel drive SUV that, in addition to a plug-in hybrid powertrain, will also be available with six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Next year, Mazda will bring the CX-80 to the Netherlands, a larger CX-60 alternative with seven seats and therefore three rows of seats. That CX-80 isn’t the only new large SUV that Mazda has in store. There is also a Mazda CX-90 coming!

Mazda CX-60

The Mazda CX-60 is Mazda’s youngest SUV in Europe.

However, unlike the CX-60 and CX-80, the CX-90 will not be coming to Europe. The Mazda CX-90 is mainly intended for the American market. Is that fair? Actually yes. In turn, the Mazda CX-60 will not come to the United States. Instead, Mazda is bringing the yet-to-be-revealed CX-70 to the US auto market. In short: the CX-60 and CX-80 are intended for Europe, the CX-70 and CX-90 get American asphalt under their wheels.

In terms of technology and design, the CX-70 and CX-90 are probably closely related to the CX-60 and the CX-80 to be released in Europe next year. This means that they are basically rear-wheel drive and that Mazda supplies, among other things, brand new six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines in the cars. A teaser image of the Mazda CX-90 shows a piece of the front screen of the new SUV, which Mazda says will be wider and longer than any other car from the brand. On the front screen you can read ‘Inline 6’. In any case, this means that the American consumer immediately knows what he or she can expect from the SUV in terms of motors.

Mazda says it will reveal the CX-90 soon, although it is not yet known where and when the SUV will make its debut. We expect that the CX-90 will replace the current CX-9 that was never delivered here in the United States.
