If you bring water up with the same system as the trees (this because of the adhesion I suppose), and then just let it go down again. Can you get energy from that? This will therefore continue to generate energy without adding energy.

Trees and other plants raise the water by using the capillary effect.
However, harvesting energy from this is not possible.
