The rise of the electric car went hand in hand with that of jargon. Where the power of a combustion engine in the Netherlands is normally referred to as horsepower, the power of electric motors is often expressed in kW. The majority of current and future EV drivers prefer horsepower. This and more is apparent from interesting research by the editors behind the EV Jaarboek.
Research conducted among 10,498 current and future Dutch EV drivers shows that the majority of them prefer the old familiar horsepower to express the power of electric motors. This is a clear majority of 84 percent.
It also appears that 38 percent of the respondents prefer that car manufacturers and importers indicate in the same way how quickly a battery pack can be fully charged again by – for example – indicating the 10 to 80% charging time. 46 percent will be happiest if the maximum charging speed in kW is also communicated.
Does the EV driver believe that more matters should be communicated differently or more clearly? Secure. 80 percent of respondents prefer to state the net capacity of a battery pack instead of the gross and/or net capacity. After all, there is always a difference between the gross capacity and the actual usable net capacity.
Did you also have to get used to kWs, kWhs, charging times and percentages or do abbreviations such as SoC (State of Charge), AC, DC, Wh/km or CHAdeMO make you mad?
