Also new crossover coming
At Cadillac, most attention is currently focused on the electric Lyriq and Celestiq, but the old CT6 also exists. That top sedan is being completely renewed and Cadillac also has a new crossover behind the scenes. AutoWeek can show you those two new Cadillacs well before their unveiling.
Rewind to 2015. In April of that year, Cadillac presented the CT6, a then new top sedan that was actually a distant descendant of the Fleetwood, after all, it was one step above the XTS that was delivered next to it. However, the 5.2 meter long Cadillac CT6 failed to become a success in the American sales lists. Initially, Cadillac sold about 10,000 a year in the United States, but sales declined from 2019. In 2020, Cadillac already pulled the plug on its top sedan in the United States. In that year only about 3,000 units were sold. In China, sales increased year by year. In 2019, more than 22,500 copies even left the Chinese dealerships and last year almost 18,000 Chinese got into a CT6. A new CT6 is coming to extend the Chinese success.
The first generation Cadillac CT6.
After research in the database of the Chinese Ministry of Transport and Information Technology, AutoWeek can already show you the first photos of the second generation CT6. From the outside, the CT6 is immediately recognizable as a Cadillac, but a lot has changed. The new Cadillac CT6 features thin, flat headlamps, vertical LED strips and a wide grille topped by a distinctive slit. It is striking that Cadillac now gives the CT6 a kind of ‘Hoffmeister’ nod. Much of the CT6 DNA also remains intact at the rear. On the sides we see historically correct vertical taillight parts with which Cadillac refers to the fins of times long gone. Higher up we see a horizontal piece of taillight that visually merges into a chrome strip that connects the two taillights.
The new Cadillac CT6 is 5.22 meters long and has a wheelbase of 3.11 meters. A large battleship, but the car length and wheelbase are the same as those of the outgoing model. The technical basis of the new CT6 is therefore most likely the same as that of the current CT6. In any case, the Chinese consumer will soon be able to step into a Cadillac CT6 with a 230 hp, blown four-cylinder. That machine already had the previous one and is also listed in the registration data of the model. The new Cadillac CT6 is not coming to the United States. The electric Celestiq takes over the function of the stretched flagship of the CT6.
Cadillac GT4
The new CT6 is not the only new Cadillac that the brand has developed for the Chinese market together with its Chinese partner SAIC. We have also surfaced photos of a new crossover that – judging by the visible type designation – will be called GT4. The Cadillac GT4 has lighting in the style of the CT6 and is 4.63 meters long. The wheelbase is 2.8 meters. This makes it slightly larger than the Cadillac XT4 also supplied elsewhere in the world, which reaches 4.60 meters and has a 2-centimeter shorter wheelbase. Like the CT6, the GT4 gets a 230 hp four-cylinder turbo engine.
Both the new Cadillac CT6 and the GT4 are not coming to the Netherlands. Which of the two would you prefer to see here?
