Red Bull takes first row start for Abu Dhabi GP

Red Bull will start the last Grand Prix of this season from the front row. Max Verstappen took pole position, teammate Sergio Pérez can chase second place in the championship from P2.

Max Verstappen has taken pole position for the third year in a row for the Gand Prix of Abu Dhabi, the final race of the Formula 1 season. The world champion was the fastest in qualifying on the Yas Marina circuit with a lap time of 1:23.824. Teammate Sergio Pérez finished second at 0.228 seconds behind Verstappen. After qualifying, he thanked Verstappen, who helped him with a slipstream.

With the second starting spot, Pérez has good credentials to secure second place in the championship, although rival Charles Leclerc was hot on his heels on Sunday. The Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc (P3) and Carlos Sainz (P4) will be on the second row on Sunday, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell of Mercedes on the third row.

The last game of the season starts at 2 p.m. Verstappen drove from pole to victory in Abu Dhabi in the past two years. Last year he passed Hamilton on the last lap, with which the Red Bull driver captured the world title. The Dutchman already secured title prolongation in Japan at the beginning of last month.
