For the first time in ages
Finally some more positive news about fuel prices. For the first time in a long time, the recommended prices of both petrol and diesel are again below €2 per litre.
Locally you could often fill up for less than €2 per liter of petrol or diesel this year, but for the first time in a long time the Average National Recommended Price for both fuels is also below €2. This is evident from figures from United Consumers, that keeps track of suggested retail prices. The GLA price for E10 petrol now stands at €1,979, that of diesel at €1,966. It is important to take into account that the current fuel prices are still somewhat depressed by the excise duty reduction of last April. This is valid until July next year.
The suggested retail price for petrol first passed €2 per liter in October 2021 and has not fallen below it since. The peak was reached in June, when the price was over €2.50 per litre. Diesel first became more expensive than €2 per liter in March this year and peaked at €2,375 later that month.
Falling oil prices are the main cause of the fall in prices. Due to fears of stricter corona measures in China, the largest oil buyer in the world, oil prices fell considerably last week and this week also starts with a decline. Fears of further economic difficulties worldwide also play a role. There is therefore a considerable chance that the end of falling fuel prices is not yet in sight.
