How do I find the percent of a grade?

I wanted to count the percent of my report, but when I had added up I pressed the percent button and it jumped to zero.

Dear Simon,

when you use the percent button on your calculator, it’s actually going to just divide the number you entered before it by 100. So 80% becomes 0.80.

So you have to make sure that everything you enter is correct. In your case you should actually do the opposite. All your points on your report are on a total number. For example: 16 out of 20. So you can get a maximum of 20 points. Now to know how many percent you have, you have to add up all your points and then divide by the sum of the maximum points. You have to multiply this by 100 to get the percentage.

For example: 13/20, 34/40, 8/10 and 20/20 gives:

The sum of all points obtained is 13 + 34 + 8 + 20 = 75

The sum of the maximum points is 20 + 40 + 10 + 20 = 90

Those two numbers need to be divided by each other and then times 100 to get your percent. So all together it is:

(13+34+8+20)/(20+40+10+20) * 100 = 75/90 *100 = 0.83 *100 = 83 %

The % sign just means that you multiplied 100 at the end.

Hopefully you can figure it out now!

For my position I am in charge of a group of engineers who maintain production equipment. It is mainly with my ready knowledge (education, interests, …) that I could answer questions.
