A lifetime of off-road fun
Electric cars come in various shapes and sizes, but we hardly know electric off-roaders. That’s where Munro comes in. The small Scottish manufacturer presents the Munro Mk_1, the best electric off-roader ever.
The chances of Munro Vehicles ringing a bell are certainly not great. Munro is still a very young and therefore small player in the car world. It was founded in 2019 with the aim of making the best electric off-roader in the world. The end result of some three years of development has now been presented. This is the Munro Mk_1.
The Munro Mk_1 is an angular off-roader whose no-nonsense design is sure to remind you of cars like the Land Rover Defender and Ineos Grenadier. The Mk_1 is therefore robust for the day, but it should actually be. According to its creators, the electric off-roader must be as durable as the Scottish mountains after which the brand is named. According to Munro, the Mk_1 will therefore last a lifetime. However, the warranty period is 5 years or 100,000 miles.
With up to 380 hp and 700 Nm, the easy-to-maintain Mk_1 should be able to plow through any type of surface without any problems. Striking: Munro does not opt for two electric motors to drive the front and rear axles. Instead, the Mk_1 has a single, centrally-located electric motor, with power distributed between the front and rear axles via a differential. So the Mk_1 just has drive shafts.
The electric off-road vehicle with a wheelbase of 330 centimeters (130 inches, we know that from the old Defender) can accommodate up to five occupants, has a maximum payload of 1,000 kilograms and can tow up to 3,500 kilograms. Munro does not seem to be specifically targeting the private market, as the company mainly cites examples where the Mk_1 is used in construction, agriculture and mining. The Terrain Executioner would also be ideal for emergency services or government agencies maintaining roads in remote areas. The Mk_1 has a 50:50 front/rear weight distribution, has two gears and can negotiate water depths of up to 80 centimetres.
The Munro Mk_1 is not only available with 380 hp. There will also be a variant with a system power of 300 hp. Both engine versions can be combined with a 61 kWh or 82 kWh battery. With the largest package you can travel up to 306 kilometers. Because Munro assumes that the rest of the car will survive the battery pack, it is also possible to knock on the door of the company for a new battery pack. The most powerful variant buzzes to a speed of 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds.
Munro Vehicles plans to produce 50 Mk_1 units this year. In 2024, production must increase by hiring 300 people. Munro wants to produce 250 cars next year, but that is not enough either. From 2027, 2,500 cars will have to leave the factory gates every year.
