The current generation of Volkswagen Tiguan is still allowed to come along for a while, but its successor is already eagerly waiting in the development rooms in Wolfsburg. The new Volkswagen Tiguan can be seen in action in these photos during cold tests in the far north of Sweden.

As in the delivery range of various other brands, a division has also arisen in the Volkswagen line-up. Under the ID label, Volkswagen hangs electric cars that have been developed as such. In addition, the brand sells numerous models that are available with conventional TSI and TDI machines. The current generation Tiguan falls into the latter category, but an electric version could still appear.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan gets a relatively rounded design.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan – which we expect to be on the market around 2024 – will in any case simply get combustion engines again. In addition, the Tiguan again comes with plug-in hybrid powertrains. It is quite possible that a fully electric Tiguan will even appear. If that is the case, it does not seem to be an ID model, although it could of course be that Volkswagen will call that car crammed with electrical engineering ‘ID Tiguan’ or perhaps ‘Tiguan-e’. Volkswagen may manage to squeeze an electric powertrain into the further developed MQB platform. After all, Stellantis achieved something similar with the electric versions of the Opel Astra, Peugeot 308 and DS 4. They simply share their platform with the sister models with combustion engines. Why do we speculate so much about an electric Tiguan? Earlier this year, a wrapped and mysterious Tiguan-sized electric SUV surfaced. As said, it remains speculation for a while.

However, it seems certain that the newcomer will be the last Tiguan to receive (mild-hybrid) petrol and diesel engines in Europe. From 2033, Volkswagen will only sell fully electric cars in Europe. When the new Tiguan appears in 2024 and, like the current model, has to last about 9 years, his farewell coincides nicely with Volkswagen’s full switch to EVs.

Like the ID models, the new Tiguan seems to be overloaded with relatively rounded design language. It has a slightly sloping shoulder line in the middle and fairly round creases above the wheel arches. The next generation Volkswagen Passat and the ‘ID.Aero’, also yet to be presented, will also have such a rounded design.
