‘Want to try other things’

Max Verstappen takes into account that as a relatively young driver he will leave Formula 1 for what it is. The 25-year-old sees himself making a switch to a different racing class in his ‘competitive years’.
‘Stopping at your peak’ may become reality for Max Verstappen when he leaves Formula 1 after his current contract with Red Bull expires. Verstappen is still under contract until 2028 and may call it a day after that. “By then I will be 31 and I probably still have a few competitive years ahead of me. In those years I also want to experience other things, with a bit more fun and less pressure,” says Motorsport.com on. “Formula 1 is a lot of fun and I’m having a lot of success at the moment, but I also want to do other things.”
Nothing is set in stone yet, of course, but we shouldn’t be surprised if Verstappen leaves F1 in six years. What will he do then? The Dutchman has already dropped it several times and now calls it again: endurance racing. A transfer to the WEC seems most promising. In the past, Verstappen has already let go that he might want to drive the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a team with his father. Last weekend, Verstappen once again participated virtually in an endurance race, this time the 500 miles of Sebring. Verstappen and his team (Team Redline) finished fourth with their LMP car. On January 14, he may participate in the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans.
