Volvo hints at cheaper EX90

The electric Volvo EX90 is Volvo’s new flagship and has specifications and a price tag that belong to a flagship. Those who prefer not to pay full price and can live with less, probably just need to be patient.

Volvo presented the promising EX90 last month, the always electrically powered new top SUV that will take over from the XC90. The Volvo EX90 was immediately shown in impressive form, with two electric motors, four-wheel drive and seven seats. With a minimum of 408 hp (517 hp with the Performance) and a driving range of up to 590 km, you are warm, but the starting price of €102,495 is not exactly tender either. The fact that one or more cheaper versions will arrive was in line with expectations. Now Volvo lifts a corner of the veil.

In conversation with Motorcycle trend the top man of Volvo’s American branch releases what Volvo is considering for the EX90. For example, he hints that a five-seater version is in the pipeline and that versions with one electric motor are also possible. He doesn’t confirm anything yet, but it only sounds logical. If a Volvo EX90 with a single electric motor does indeed appear, it will be a rear-wheel drive version. Just as has recently been the case with little brothers XC40 and C40.

When can we count on that cheaper Volvo EX90? Well, first the now presented Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance with three rows of seats have to go into production at all. That will happen next year and then it will probably take at least until late 2023 before the first EX90s reach the dealer.
