Expensive as a gift, cheap as a car
Of course you can give a pair of socks, a box of shower items or a personalized snack board as a gift for Christmas, but maybe you can also put some money together to give someone who needs it a real car as a gift? We present five occasions that probably still have some life left in them and all cost less than €1,000.
2022 was a financially challenging year for many people. High fuel prices, expensive groceries, energy costs that shoot through the roof. This coming weekend is the perfect time to surprise someone who has had a rough time. Perhaps you know someone who would like to own a car, but does not have the means to do so. How nice would it be to surprise them with a cheap, but probably still great car? And otherwise you can always give it to yourself as a gift, if there is something in between. They almost fit under the Christmas tree, except for the Wagon R+ and Move!
Renault Twingo – €699
A Renault Twingo cannot be missing from this list. Cheeky, reliable and still nice to see for its age. It remains a strong design. This copy has also had a fairly quiet life, except for some damage on the right flank. For the rest, the yellow little one doesn’t look that crazy at all. And for that money…
Citroen Saxo – €950
It doesn’t make much difference, but with this Citroën Saxo you have a bit more car in your hands than with a Twingo. He is a little older and has walked a little more. It’s all pretty simple and vandal-proof together and moreover, it certainly looks like a neat car inside. It is also a nice bourgeois 1.1, so the chances are not that great that it secretly imitated the Saxo Cup once.
Daihatsu Move – €950
Do you happen to know someone with a soft spot for Daihatsu’s, Kei cars or the outcasts from car land? Or someone who is crazy about all those things, like colleague Lars Krijgsman who also owns a Daihatsu Move? Search no further! This Daihatsu Move is exactly what you will probably make them very happy with. Or (because of the easy entry) an elderly aunt or your grandmother, because Lars is probably one of the few Move drivers in our country who was born after 1960.
Suzuki Wagon R+ – €999
Would you rather put the same aunt or grandma in a slightly more modern car that is otherwise reasonably in the spirit of the above Move? Then you quickly end up with an Opel Agila or its Japanese twin brother, the Suzuki Wagon R +. Here we have such a Suzuki, which not only feels more mature, but is also less sensitive to rust than a Move. In this case also equipped with a towbar, but do not attach a tandem axle.
Nissan Micra – €999
What a fresh appearance such a late second-generation Nissan Micra is, isn’t it? Clear headlights, painted bumpers, a colorful interior, all right. The lacquer scab on the tailgate is a pity, but otherwise it doesn’t look too crazy for its age. The mileage of 114,756 is also perfectly fine and there are still a few months of MOT on it.
