These cars will become youngtimers in 2023

Audi A4 (B8)

Audi tends not to go for a thorough design change with a generation change. Although that may not be very creative, it does ensure that the models are not immediately outdated if they are followed. That also helps the A4 B8, which was introduced almost fifteen years ago, because it still looks quite modern despite its age. Of course it’s not like that eye-catcher like the A5 of that generation that appeared just a little earlier, but certainly an interesting option for the business driver who wants to drive comfortably and modernly at a favorable addition.

Audi Q5

Nowadays, Audi has closed just about every crack in the SUV market, but that was different fifteen years ago. In fact, it was only then that it first came up with an answer to the BMW X3. The first generation Audi Q5 may blow out fifteen candles this year and it lasted no less than nine years. Therefore, even with an ‘early’ Q5 from 2008, you have a car that still looks pretty fresh.

BMW 7 Series (F01)

A car that is undoubtedly on the wish list of various business drivers is the BMW 7 series of the F01 generation. In 2023 you can finally add it as a youngtimer. The design of this 7-series was a relief for many after the rather controversially lined predecessor, although it is also a slightly more ‘anonymous’ 7-series at the same time. Maybe that just appeals to you. Compared to the latest 7-series, it is in any case a relatively modest appearance. The oldest copies are available from around €15,000, but for the really nice and thick versions you will of course have to pay (much) more.

Ford Fiesta (Mk6)

If it is all a bit more modest, remember that the previous Ford Fiesta will also be fifteen years old in 2023. To be fair, it has aged a bit less quickly than its predecessor. The fact that the current Fiesta is broadly similar helps, of course. If you are looking for a copy from 2008, you will find many Fiestas in the purple or light green introduction color. Even with the not too spicy 1.25 engine, the 1.4 is a more pleasant choice. Are you looking for a little more space? The Ford Kuga will also turn fifteen in 2023!

Honda Accord (CU2)

Remember, the Honda Accord? For generations a middle class to be reckoned with, but especially in the twentieth century. After 2000 it went a lot less here and Honda pulled the plug on the European Accord in 2015. The last generation then gave up and it is that Accord that will celebrate its fifteenth birthday in 2023. The second-hand supply is not very large due to the relatively limited new sales, but there are still really neat and pleasantly designed copies that can also be interesting for the business mileage eater.

Mercedes Benz GLK

Another ‘disappeared’ name: GLK. Just like Audi, Mercedes-Benz competed with the BMW X3 in 2008 and did so with this idiosyncratically designed predecessor of the successful GLC. Although the C-class of that time with which it shared its base also had quite a lot of sharp folds and lines, the GLK went one step further. Mercedes-Benz apparently liked both the name GLK and this design approach after one generation. The GLK therefore remains a bit of an odd man out and that might make it even more fun. It is only available with fairly large engines, so take a well-filled wallet or fuel card with you.

Opel Insignia

It was quite a bit when it became known that Opel was saying goodbye to the Vectra. The successor had to shake off the somewhat boring image of the Vectra with a different name and a slicker appearance. In 2008 the time had come and we were introduced to the first Insignia. He got hands on with his fresh look. Has the Insignia ultimately aged better than the Vectra? Judge yourself. If you are surprised that the oldest copies will be fifteen years old in 2023, then that says something. For a relative next to nothing you have a car in front of the door that can still be seen.

Volkswagen Passat CC

More design spectacle from Germany came from Volkswagen. That brought the Passat CC onto the market in 2008, in other words a Passat in a flashier jacket. We were hardly confronted with the somewhat dubious term ‘four-door coupé’ at the time, but the Passat CC was already described as such. After all, it was a four-door, just a sedan, which Volkswagen baptized ‘Comfort Coupé’. Later, the Passat part would disappear from the name to separate it even further from its more conventional brother. Have you ever leased a Passat but wished you could drive its prettier brother? Next year you can strike at a favorable addition!

Volkswagen Golf (5K)

The sixth generation of the Volkswagen Golf will also be with us for fifteen years in 2023. At least, at the end of the year the first specimens reach that age. The essentially thoroughly renewed fifth generation of the Golf came on the market at the last minute in 2008. You can bet that it will take some searching for Golfs that will already be eligible for the youngtimer scheme in 2023, because the delivery only took place in 2009 really good and well underway.

Volvo XC60

After years of strong sales success with the XC90, Volvo decided it was time to launch a second and more compact SUV. So it happened and in 2008 the world was introduced to the XC60. It certainly did the Swedes no harm and the XC60 can no longer be ignored from Volvo’s model range. In the Netherlands, the XC60 even grew into a greater sales success than the XC90, although Volvo owes that a bit more to the current generation than to the first. The XC60s that will be fifteen years old in 2023, of course, still have the old nose with the front lighting cut in two and the smaller grille. The facelift version will only become a youngtimer in 2028.
