Spy shots BMW iX2

BMW is working on a completely new X2. That is the first ever of which an electric iX2 also appears. We can now show you the latter in test costume for the first time.

Last year, BMW pulled the curtain on a completely new X1, so it won’t be long before a new generation of the X2 comes along. The new BMW X2 will be a different model than the X2 you’ve known for a while. In contrast to the outgoing X2, the new one is much more of a ‘coupé SUV’ with a relatively steeply sloping roofline. Where the current X2 is a more playfully designed and smaller alternative to the X2, the new X2 becomes what the X4 and X6 are, successively the X3 and X5.

Since its generation change, the BMW X1 is also available as an electric iX1 for the first time and it is expected that an electric version of the brand new X2 will also be available. It would of course be called iX2. The electric BMW iX2 has entered a very slippery corner a little too enthusiastically in these spy photos. Exhaust pipes are conspicuous by their absence, which to us is proof that this really is the electric iX2, although the ‘Electrified Vehicle’ sticker may also indicate the presence of a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The new X2 will undoubtedly also be available as a plug-in. If this is indeed the iX2, it will be BMW’s first electric ‘coupé SUV’. After all, there are no electric variants of the X4 and X6. The BMW iX1 can travel up to 438 kilometers on a full battery. The iX2 will certainly not be inferior to that.
