The next step in the field of in-car entertainment is now imminent: playing computer games. You will soon be able to play computer games in models from various brands.
When Tesla modernized the Model S and Model X quite thoroughly, both inside and out, at the beginning of 2021, it immediately brought a real ‘gaming computer’ to the electric duo. The Model S and Model X received hardware that makes it possible to play computer games via the game platform Steam. The fact that more car manufacturers consider it necessary to partially transform their models into a game console was shown during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Computer hardware manufacturer Nvidia – known for its video cards, among other things – reports that its GeForce Now service will also be available from Hyundai, Kia, Polestar and the Chinese BYD (Build Your Dreams). These are brands and models that already use software from Nvidia. For example, the new Polestar 3 also receives hardware and software from Nvidia. Unlike, for example, the ‘game system’ of the aforementioned Tesla Model S and Model X, Nvidia’s GeForce Now does not require heavy hardware with dozens of terraflops of computing power. GeForce Now is a kind of Netflix for computer games where the games to be played run in the cloud. It is intended that passengers in the back seats of cars with rear displays will be able to marvel at more than 1,500 computer games along the way. Front seat occupants can of course only play when the car is parked.
According to Nvidia, playing computer games in the car will play a greater role as the autonomous capabilities of cars continue to develop.
