‘600,000 cars in the Netherlands are never washed’

Bovag has new figures showing that 7 percent of passenger cars in the Netherlands are never washed. Although that is roughly the same percentage as in recent years, the absolute number is higher. It translates to roughly 600,000 cars that never get washed.

A whopping 48 percent of people who never wash their car say they don’t care about a clean car. 36 percent think it is of little use since the car gets dirty again quickly and the same percentage simply thinks car washing is ‘not fun’. Furthermore, Bovag’s figures show that almost a third (32 percent) find washing their car ‘too much hassle’, while 22 percent believe that the rain in the Netherlands keeps their vehicle sufficiently clean.

Washing a car is of course not mandatory, you just have to make sure that dirt and/or moisture on the windows does not obstruct your view and the lighting must not be hindered by dirt. Yet there is still a danger in not washing your car, although this is especially true for modern cars. The Bovag warns that safety and assistance systems may not work properly if your car is dirty. Sensors and cameras can then become confused.
