Volkswagen Up GTI no longer available to order

After five years and exactly 555 Dutch copies

Volkswagen Up GTI no longer available to order

The curtain falls for the Volkswagen Up GTI. Although a few new copies are still available from stock, the car can no longer be ordered new – both in the Netherlands and internationally. In total, Volkswagen managed to sell 555 copies of the Up GTI in the Netherlands. Volkswagen has nothing to say about when the regular Up will disappear from the market.

The sporty variant of Volkswagen’s A-segmenter came on the market in 2018, when the Volkswagen Up itself had already been with us for seven years. The regular Up saw the light of day in 2011, is still being built and therefore has a remarkably long life for a modern Volkswagen. The Up GTI has a much shorter life, it can clear the field after five years of sales.

The British Autocar reports that the fast(er) Up can no longer be ordered and a look at the Dutch order lists – which only say ‘available from stock’ for the Up GTI – confirms that this also applies in the Netherlands. The Volkswagen importer then says that the car will not come back and reports that the brand is thinning out the line-up of the Up. The regular Up can therefore only be combined with the unblown, 65 hp three-cylinder. The importer cannot yet report any news about when it will disappear.

With the disappearance of the sporty city rascal, we lose a fairly unique car on the Dutch market. The Up GTI did it with a blown three-cylinder with 115 hp, coupled to a manual six-speed gearbox. And that at a time when there are actually no other hot A-segmenters.

Volkswagen Up GTI vs. Hyundai i10 N line

The competitor i10 previously had a 100 hp strong N-line, but no ‘full-fat’ N.
