On the hunt for €60 million

Sono Motors is in heavy weather again, but behind the clouds the sun is shining. At least, that is what the company behind solar car Sion hopes. Sono Motors needs nearly €105 million to make the Sion dream a reality. At the time of writing, almost €43 million of this has been received.
At the end of 2019, Sono Motors started a crowdfunding campaign to rake in the necessary €50 million to keep the company afloat. Sono Motors did not raise the amount within the set deadline, but after an extension of the campaign, the company still raked in enough capital. Now history repeats itself. Sono Motors needs money again, and not just a little bit.
Sono Motors says it needs no less than €104.65 million to market its Sion called ‘solar car’. Of that almost €105 million, Sono Motors has received more than €42.85 million at the time of writing. That means that Sono Motors still has to raise €61.8 million. Zion doesn’t have much time for that either. The company has just under nine days left. If that doesn’t work, Sono may face his last sunset.
According to Sono Motors, it has already found more than 8,100 people as lenders. “Every euro counts, even a small contribution helps,” writes the financially moribund Sono Motors on its website. Those who are afraid of losing their money if Sono Motors goes bankrupt are reassured by the company. You can now pledge money, money that will only be written off when enough commitments have been made to save the company again.
Sono Motors Zion
The Sono Motors Sion is an electric car that generates part of its required energy with solar cells. The Sion costs €29,900 and if you order a copy now, you will receive a discount of up to €2,100 from Sono Motors. The Sion has a 54-kWh battery that gives the car a range of 305 kilometers. According to Sono Motors, the solar cells are capable of adding up to 245 kilometers and an average of 112 kilometers of range per week. The sun rises for nothing.
