Hyundai Kona

Hyundai takes the new Kona to the podium. In any case, the new Hyundai Kona will be back on the market with a hybrid and a fully electric powertrain. The Koreans are now releasing new details.

At the end of 2022, Hyundai already released the first photos and the first information of the brand new second-generation Kona and is now highlighting more details of its new potential success. We already knew that the new Hyundai Kona grows a size compared to the outgoing model. Now we can also tell you exactly what that means for the interior space.

The new Hyundai Kona grows in length to 4.35 meters, which means that it is about 15 centimeters longer than the model that you still find at the dealers. The Kona also grows in width by 2.5 centimeters. The wheelbase grows by six centimeters to 2.66 meters. The legroom in the back increases by no less than 7.7 centimeters while you also benefit from 1.1 centimeters of extra headroom compared to the current model. The shoulder room in the rear seat also increases.

As in many other new cars, the new Hyundai Kona does not have a traditional covered instrument panel. Instead, behind the wheel, you’ll find a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel that appears to have merged with an equally large infotainment screen. Hyundai will immediately release more photos of the exterior of the new Kona. We have written extensively about this before.

Well-known hybrid, also fully electric

The new Hyundai Kona will in any case come to the Netherlands with a hybrid powertrain and as a fully electric Kona Electric – or Kona EV. In South Korea, the first figures of the new hybrid Kona have already been released. It gets a system power of 141 hp and 265 Nm. Those figures are probably not coincidentally equal to those of the hybrid variant of the new Kia Niro, the technical brother of the Kona. So count on the new Kona Hybrid also delivering 141 hp in the Netherlands.

In any case, the Kona will also be available with non-hybrid combustion engines in South Korea. Including a 1.6 T-GDI and a 2.0 without turbo. The blown 1.6 kicks it in the new Kona to 198 hp and 265 Nm of torque, the 2.0 is 149 hp and 180 Nm strong. Will these variants come to the Netherlands? We don’t bet on it.

Hyundai Kona

Each flavor of the Hyundai Kona gets its own style.

The powertrain of the Kia Niro EV probably already gives away what you can expect from the new Hyundai Kona Electric on a technical level. The Niro EV has a 64.8 kWh battery pack and a 204 hp and 255 Nm strong electric motor. The current Kona Electric also has an electric motor of 204 hp. In March, Hyundai will release the actual specifications of the electric Kona.
