Stay below the price cap
It has long been cheaper to charge your car at home than to hang it on the fast charger. This is the conclusion of price comparison site Pricewise.
In recent months, due to the high energy prices, it has regularly been cheaper to charge your electric car at the fast chargers of Fastned, for example, than at home, even though fast charging used to always be more expensive than charging at home. With effect from the price ceiling in January, it will again be cheaper to charge your electric car at home, reports Pricewise.nl.
The comparison website provides a calculation example. Charging a Tesla Model S at home on the charger at €0.40 per kWh costs around €30. With a fast charger from Fastned you will lose €0.83 per kWh and the same charge will cost you €62.25. So more than double.
Pricewise emphasizes that home charging is only cheaper than fast charging if you stay below the price ceiling, and you will of course break through that sooner if you often charge your car at home. According to the price comparator, the current market prices of energy suppliers are around €0.80 per kWh.
