Audi buys interest in F1 team Sauber

Audi enters the premier class of motorsport. As of 2026, Sauber will be Audi’s factory team. The German manufacturer is now taking a stake in the Swiss F1 racing team.

For some time now it has been buzzing through the corridors that Audi would join Formula 1, but in what way remained unclear for a long time. That changed last year. Then Audi announced that it would become the engine supplier of the Audi racing team, which will operate under the Alfa Romeo (Alfa Romeo Racing) flag until this year. In October it was announced that Sauber would become Audi’s factory team and now the car brand is taking a stake in the racing team.

As it became clear earlier, Audi is not taking over the entire team. It has now taken a minority stake in Sauber Group, although both Audi and Sauber Group are not clear on the exact size of the share. Although Sauber will be Audi’s factory team from 2026, the racing team from Hinwil, Switzerland, will remain responsible for developing the F1 car, among other things. The name of the Audi and Sauber racing team is not yet known.
