“Mercedes-Benz scraps many more models”

Next E-class Estate the very last station wagon?

“Mercedes-Benz scraps many more models”

Mercedes-Benz seems to be continuing to thin its model range further than expected so far, according to what the American Car and Driver recorded through conversations with managers of the brand. For example, Mercedes would stop station wagons completely and the majority of coupés and coupé-like models would also disappear. The most concrete is the discontinuation of the CLS class and the AMG GT 4-door Coupé.

Mercedes-Benz wants to increase its margins and therefore the brand will not be able to offer as many different models in the future as it does now. We already knew that the brand wants to leave the lower segments by scrapping the A and B classes and that the coupé range is being thinned out. After all, there will be no convertible or coupé from the current S-class, and the new C-class and the upcoming E-class will have one coupé and convertible brother in the form of the CLE. According to Car and Driver the brand goes even further.

This is what the medium believes after discussions with top managers within Mercedes-Benz. The Germans would stop station wagons completely after the disappearance of the current C-class Estate and the upcoming E-class Estate. It also writes that the coupé variants of the GLC and GLE will eventually be discontinued, but it will take a while before the current generations of those models are removed. Cars that drop out earlier are the CLS class and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, which will disappear in 2024 or 2025 and will not have successors. Well, according to Car and Driver a four-door variant based on the new SL, although there are no further indications for this yet.

Only globally relevant Mercedes-Benz models

All in all, the Mercedes range in Europe would be at least 50 percent smaller in 2030, although that is not very remarkable given the current model mix. Now you will find electric models and models with combustion engines, while the latter will be a thing of the past after 2030 anyway. In return, we can expect more from Mercedes’ products in the higher echelons of the market, including those under the Maybach, AMG or Mythos banner. Furthermore, the brand focuses on models that are in demand worldwide, which include the C-class Estate and the A and B-class not.
