Nice recovery

Cork, floor mats made from recycled fishing nets and door panels made from recycled PET bottles: in 2023 you will increasingly find such materials labeled as sustainable in cars. This may go even further in the future. What about a Porsche 911 with coffee pulp on the dashboard?
In the hunt for the use of as many ‘sustainable’ materials as possible, Skoda once showed an Octavia in which it had made various decorative strips and even the door panels from grasses and even sugar beet pulp. Today we have a Porsche 911 on offer for you in which we find even more special materials, including coffee pulp. Don’t worry: the new 911 doesn’t have an interior made of coffee grounds. We are dealing here with a project from Callum Designs, the design and development agency of former Jaguar and Aston Martin designer Ian Callum.
Callum Designs, together with the English Ottan, has filled the interior of a classic 911 with special materials. For example, the companies mix eggshells with resin to make a smooth, opaque plastic substitute with a glossy or matte surface. 78 percent of this material consists of recycled raw materials. According to Callum Designs, walnut shells can be added to increase the percentage of recycled materials to 84 percent. More striking use of materials: perennial lentils as the basis for a transparent material that you can use to make headlight housings, among other things. Furthermore, coffee pulp can be used for the finish of the dashboard. Callum Designs and Ottan say they can make tree leaves into a material that can replace wood veneer. The two companies also use material that has nothing to do with the food industry. For example, Callum uses recycled textiles and plastic for the carpet and chair upholstery, among other things.
