Nearly 400,000 cars

A huge recall for Tesla in the United States: no less than 363,000 cars have to be addressed there after intervention by the NHTSA. Tesla’s FSD (Full Self-Driving) could cause dangerous situations.
The American safety watchdog NHTSA has been scrutinizing Tesla for years, especially FSD, which enables the cars to drive around independently (under the watchful eye of the driver). In the United States, Tesla drivers with FSD preparation in their car can already try out a beta version. The NHTSA has been able to do that since last summer and has apparently discovered something that is causing concern. We’re reading Automotive News that the NHTSA instructs Tesla to recall all cars that can use FSD.
On Thursday, the NHTSA revealed that self-driving Teslas could go wrong at intersections. For example, in some cases they could drive straight on while they are pre-sorted to turn. There would also be situations where the car does not come to a complete stop at a stop sign, or the car does not cross carefully enough at an intersection with the traffic lights switched off (flashing orange). All in all, apparently worrying enough to urge Tesla to issue a recall for all cars with FSD (preparation).
It concerns a huge group of cars: let’s say 363,000 units, of the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y. The cars are not being physically recalled; Tesla comes with an over-the-air update that should satisfy the NHTSA. The whole story has no consequences for the Dutch market, because FSD is not yet available here at all.
