Abarth managed to loosen the tongues last spring with the very special 1000 SP. A one-off, or so it seemed at the time. It turns out to be something else, because Abarth is going to build five of them.
That Abarth has decided not to stop at just one 1000 SP, we know thanks to the Italian Auto Italia Magazine. That reports on Twitter that it has spoken to the designer, Roberto Giolito, who confirms that five of them are being built. It is not yet known what the 1000 SP will cost and whether there is still a chance to get one. There is a good chance that reservations have already taken place behind the scenes, as often happens with such special cars.
The Abarth 1000 SP is a very special appearance, which owes its appearance to the Abarth of the same name from the 1960s (from photo 2). A fast lightweight two-seater for track use. Due to its voluptuous lines, the Alfa Romeo 4C proved to be the ideal basis for Abarth to pay a modern tribute to it. The 1000 SP also has the well-known 1.8 turbo behind the seats of the 4C, good for a power of 240 hp. Incidentally, the original had a just under 1,000 cc four-cylinder with double Weber carburettors. A high-revving block that was good for a power of 102 hp and helped the 1000 SP to a top speed of over 220 km/h. Very neat figures for the late 1960s.
