Abarth 1000 SP is a unique one-off

Abarth has presented a very special model. The brand pays tribute to its racing heritage by creating a modern interpretation of the 1966 Abarth 1000 SP. Unfortunately for those already with their wallet at the ready: the Abarth 1000 SP is a one-off.

Alfa Romeo and Abarth are two names that are very fond of many car enthusiasts. The two brands are certainly no strangers to each other. In the 1950s, the two companies worked together to develop the Alfa Romeo Abarth 1000, a small Abarth 1000-based coupe with a reduced Alfa Romeo heart and a Bertone-designed coach. Abarth then hired engineer Mario Colucci, responsible for the development of the Alfa Romeo Abarth 1000, as Technical Director. His next project was the Abarth 1000 SP, a tear nose intended for the Sport Prototipo racing series with which Abarth managed to win several victories. It is that Abarth 1000 SP to which Abarth now pays a one-off tribute.

Just like the original, the reborn Abarth 1000 SP is a lightweight open sportsman with striking windows and voluptuous lines. The red ‘new’ Abarth 1000 SP, just like the primal 1000 SP, has small round headlights, a large cooling slot in its muzzle and a front cover that is larded with slots. Under the body of Abarth’s one-off is an aluminum and carbon fiber base. Behind the front seats is a 1,750 cc blown four-cylinder, a 240 hp machine that is also used in the Alfa Romeo 4C. That is not without reason, it seems that the reborn Abarth 1000 SP is ‘just’ a specially modified Alfa Romeo 4C. Abarth does not park the new 1000 SP directly in its museum, as the car will be used during numerous events in the near future.
