AC Cobra GT Roadster: looks familiar, is brand new

The AC Cobra is now truly reborn! After numerous replicas have appeared and AC Cars has also started building the original Cobra again, there is now a completely new Cobra for the first time from the brand that once started with it.

The AC Cobra (in all its forms) is one of the most legendary sports cars of all time. With its striking and very recognizable appearance and often quite sturdy engines, the Cobra is high on the list of many car enthusiasts. The British AC Cars brought the Cobra onto the market more than 60 years ago and then built it themselves for less than ten years, but partly thanks to the American Shelby, the Cobra remained in production long after AC had stopped it. AC Cars was revived more than ten years ago and also took the Cobra back into production itself. Now, for the first time in its history, it presents an all-new Cobra!

As we already understood at the end of last year, the new Cobra is immediately recognizable as a Cobra, but a lot has changed. For example, the reincarnation is 11 cm longer than the old Cobra and the wheelbase has even grown by 28.4 cm. Although the new Cobra has somewhat smaller overhangs, it has remained fairly faithful to the original in terms of proportions. There are also modern external details such as LED lamps and large alloy wheels, but it does not distract too much from the otherwise quite classic approach of the design. The cockpit of the AC Cobra GT Roadster is also a clear mix of classic lines and a modern sauce. Modern conveniences such as electrically operated windows, navigation and climate control are standard.

Where the primal Cobra was developed with a V8 in mind and then a six-cylinder was spooned in at the beginning, this brand new Cobra immediately gets a V8 in its nose. A whopping 663 hp and 780 Nm strong specimen to be precise. It sends its power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or a ten-speed automatic transmission. Does that sound somewhat familiar to you? That may be right: the Cobra GT Roadster has the 5.0 Coyote V8 that we know from the Ford Mustang in its nose and the transmissions also almost certainly come from Ford. The AC Cobra GT Roadster can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 3.5 seconds. Reportedly, the new AC Cobra will cost around €321,000 in its home country United Kingdom. The full reveal will be in April, so we can tell you more.
