Add contact to WhatsApp

Send a WhatsApp message to someone who is not in your phone book? Add this person to your contacts. This can be done via WhatsApp.


If you want to send someone a message via WhatsApp, you can do that directly. WhatsApp will automatically add anyone who is already in the phone. At least, everyone who also uses WhatsApp. Do you want to send an app to someone who is not in your phone book? Then add this person to your WhatsApp contacts.

  • Tap on whatsapp.
  • Tap the tab chats.
  • Tap the green circle with the speech bubble (Android) or a pencil at the top right (iOS)
  • Scroll through the contacts and tap the person’s name.
  • Type a message.
  • Tap the paper airplane icon to send the message.

First create a new contact if someone is not in your contact list.

  • Tap on WhatsApp.
  • Tap the tab chats.
  • Tap the green circle with the speech bubble (Android) or a pencil at the top right (iOS).
  • Tap on New contact.
  • Enter the requested information.
  • Tap on Save or Keep.

No contacts appear in WhatsApp? The app will then not have permission to read your phone book. Give permission first.

  • If necessary, close the WhatsApp app.
  • Tap the app Institutions.
  • Tap on apps and possibly again afterwards apps.
  • Tap on whatsapp.
  • Tap on Permissions or Permissions.
  • Swipe down on the screen if necessary.
  • Drag the slider behind ‘Contacts’ to the right. The slider turns blue.
  • If necessary, close the WhatsApp app.
  • Tap the app Institutions.
  • Tap on whatsapp.
  • Drag the sliders behind ‘Contacts’ to the right. The slider turns green.
