If you’re a regular WhatsApp user, chances are there are times when you’d prefer not to appear online while on the app. Know that it’s possible, and Clubic explains how.
Like its sister app Messenger, WhatsApp shows your online or offline status by default. As a result, as soon as you open the application, your contacts can see that you are connected and therefore decide to come and talk to you. While it is common to not want to respond immediately, the “online” status tends to make your interlocutor think that you are available immediately and therefore that you must respond quickly.
This is all the more problematic in a professional context, WhatsApp becoming more and more a popular messaging service for certain companies. Likewise, constantly posting your status raises questions about privacy, since such a feature not only shares your status, but also the last time you were online. Fortunately, WhatsApp offers the ability to change these settings.
How to remove your default “online” status on WhatsApp?
1. Go to the application settings
You must first open the WhatsApp application, on iOS or Android, then simply click on “Settings” at the bottom right of the screen.
2. Go to “Privacy”, then to “Online Presence”
Once you are in WhatsApp settings, you can go to “Privacy”.
You will then see a list of items to share, or not, with your contacts. You have to click on the first one, that is to say “Online presence”.
3. Choose “No one” in the “Who can see my last online presence” section?
Here you will have the choice to display your last online presence with everyone, only your contacts, some of your contacts or no one. This refers to the date and time that appears below your first name in the app, reminding people of the last time you were online. By choosing, “Nobody”, you now prevent them from having access to this information.
To go further and also remove your “online” status when you are, check “Same as when I was last online” in the “Who can see when I am online” box.
That’s it ! Please note, however, that you can change these settings at any time.
