Last week it came to light that Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos is leaving Dacia after less than a year and Lada as chief designer. Now it turns out why: he goes according to Automotive News working at Alfa Romeo.
With roughly nine months of experience at Dacia and Lada as chief designer, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos is leaving again. It seems he has been presented with a challenge that he cannot pass up. The former top designer of Seat goes according to the generally well-informed Automotive News to Alfa Romeo. In July, the Spaniard would start working at the design center in Turin.
Mesonero-Romanos, 52 years old, has recently added some important models to its portfolio. Under his leadership, the previous and current Seat Leon, but also the Ateca, Arona, Ibiza, Tarraco and the Cupra’s Born and Formentor were created. In his earlier career, the Spaniard worked for Renault, where he was one of the founders of the Laguna Coupé. At Alfa Romeo, he will probably be the first to get the design of the compact crossover, temporarily referred to as ‘Brennero’, ready for production. In that case, he takes over from Daniele Calonaci, who is not only responsible for Alfa Romeo but also for the Jeep design department in Europe.
