Android’s Clock app can tell you more than just the right time. Set an alarm to wake up on time or to get a reminder of an appointment.
Google, Samsung or another brand?
Most Android phone manufacturers have their own Clock app and therefore also their own alarm clock function. In general, the capabilities and steps in those apps are similar. However, they can differ per brand (Nokia, LG, Samsung, Huawei, Google). Consult your phone’s user guide if you’re not sure what to do with our instructions. In addition, some devices have a clock from Google as standard. This app is also too download from Google Play Store. This article covers Samsung clock and Google clock.
Samsung: set an alarm
Setting an alarm on a Samsung device is easy. In the example below, we assume a Samsung Galaxy S device with Android 10 and higher. Other versions may have minor differences in the steps.
- Open the Clock app.
- Tap the tab at the bottom left Alarm.
- Tap the plus sign.
- Tap on Alarm name.
- Type a name, for example “Dinner with John”.
- The alarm is set to today by default. Change the day? Tap the calendar icon, the desired date and then Ready.
- Tap the hour digits on the clock and type the desired hour for the alarm.
- Repeat with the minute button.
- Tap on Save.
Samsung: Repeated alarm clock
If the alarm is set in the above manner, the alarm will sound once. To have the same alarm sound more often, for example at the same time every week, you can set the alarm to repeat.
- Tap the desired alarm in the overview or set a new alarm as described in the previous paragraph.
- Tap a day of the week (M, D, W, D, V, Z, Z).
- ‘Every (chosen day)’ will appear and a circle will appear around the chosen day. If you want a reminder on several days, choose several days.
- Tap a day again to remove it. The circle around the selected day disappears.
- Tap on Save.
Samsung: Change alarm sound
If necessary, choose a different sound for the alarm.
- Tap the desired alarm in the overview or set a new alarm.

- Tap on Spotify.
- Choose a song or playlist.
- Tap the left arrow.

- Tap the slider behind ‘Alarm sound’ to turn off the sound.
- Tap on Vibrate.

- Tap on slumber.
- Choose an interval. This is the time between two alarms.
- Choose how often the alarm should repeat after you tap it away.
- Tap the left arrow.
- Tap on Save.
Samsung: turn off repeated alarms
At times, our built-in alarm clock works faster than the alarm clock on the phone. The organic waste bin is already on the street and the alarm for it has yet to come. Samsung takes this into account and displays a message on the screen before the alarm goes off.
- Before an alarm goes off, the message ‘Turn off upcoming alarm’ will appear at the top of the screen. Tap the notification.
- Cancel the alarm by tapping the slide behind the alarm.
Google: set alarm clock

- Tap the name of the current sound.
- Next to ‘Sounds’, tap YouTube Music, Pandora or Spotify.
- Find a song you want to use and tap it.
Google: vibrate function
The Google alarm clock also has a vibrate function for times when a sound signal is not useful.
- Tap on Alarm clock.
- For the alarm clock of your choice, tap the down arrow.
- Tap on Vibrate.
Google: hibernate
slumber or snooze of the Google alarm clock is simple:
- Once the alarm goes off, swipe left on the lock screen; the alarm goes off again after ten minutes.
- Permanently stop without slumbering? Then swipe right on the lock screen.
Samsung and Google: talking to the alarm clock
Samsung and Google alarm clocks also listen for voice commands.
- Activate the Google voice assistant by pressing and holding the home button of the smartphone.
- Give a voice command, for example: ‘Set an alarm in 60 minutes’. Or “Set a repeating alarm.” In the second case, Google asks additional questions.
The assistant says aloud what time the alarm goes off.
