Acura, Honda’s luxury brand in North America, shows a drawing of the forerunner of the new Acura MDX. That seems vague, but secretly the record shows how Acura’s largest SUV will look like.
The car outlined here is still a ‘prototype’, according to Acura. That name is usually reserved for cars that are still in the test stage, but Honda – and therefore also Acura – has often used it in recent years for show models that, except for a few details, are identical to the final production model.
Judging from this sketch, this is also the case with the MDX. The car looks quite ready for production and fits perfectly with the TLX, the most recent Acura product. A large, pentagonal grille, large LED headlights and sharp lines thus define the image.
Acura sets high expectations and promises the “most important and ambitious” innovation in MDX history. The car will be longer, wider and lower, and even more than the outgoing model, it needs a high-quality premium look to compete in a segment where the MDX has been very popular in recent years.
It depends on how specific you want to make it, but Acura may call the MDX the best-selling ‘three-row luxury SUV’ in the US. The most popular car among premium SUVs with three rows of seats, a corner of the market that also includes the Volvo XC90. The current generation of the MDX appeared in 2014 and received a fairly extensive facelift in 2016. A completely new model is therefore in place.
