Ready for HVO100 diesel

All Toyotas with a diesel engine will soon enjoy fossil-free diesel

Toyota is making technical changes to the diesel engines it supplies in the Land Cruiser and Hilux, among others. The self-igniters will soon also like HVO100 biofuel. Yes, fossil-free diesel.

The Toyota Land Cruiser and Hilux are the first models that will soon enjoy HVO100. HVO100 – the letters of which stand for Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil – is a so-called biodiesel, but one that is made entirely from renewable sources. HVO diesel, also known as green diesel, is produced from residual oils, vegetable oils, fats, but also from waste. The Toyota Proace and Proace City could already handle HVO100 biofuel.

The modified diesels of the Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser will be delivered in the first quarter of 2023. After their arrival, all Toyota light commercial vehicles in Europe will want HVO100 diesel. In the Netherlands there are approximately 1,000 pumps where HVO100 diesel is available. To prepare the engines for the HVO fuel, Toyota mainly had to deal with the injection system. HVO100 has a lower density than regular diesel. The revised power units can also handle regular diesel. Toyota does report that both engine power and consumption may increase slightly.
