Almost 60 percent of Dutch people who buy their first car do not haggle

When you bought your first car, were you confident enough to negotiate the price? Research by Autoscout24 shows that remarkably few Dutch people try to do something about the price when purchasing their first car.

Research by car sales site AutoScout24 shows that 9 out of 10 Dutch people buy a used one for their first car. That’s not remarkable. What is remarkable is that only 43 percent of them negotiate the price with the seller when purchasing their first car. This means that 57 percent simply put the full asking price on the table for their first car.

More interesting figures about the Dutch and their first car? Certainly. 80 percent of the Dutch people who buy their first car mainly look at the asking price. 37 percent of the respondents state the mileage as one of the most important matters, the same proportion of the respondents say that age is important. Brand (35 percent) and model (32 percent) are also often mentioned. The color of the car seems to matter less (17 percent). In addition, it appears that 44 percent of the respondents still feel a special bond with their first car years later. 72 percent of buyers paid for their own car themselves. 11 percent got their first car, 14 percent partially paid for it themselves and 3 percent of the Dutch who choose their first car opt for a lease construction.
