Strong growth despite market-wide dip – Kia dominates

Nearly 4 percent fewer new passenger cars were registered in April than in the same month last year. Despite this dip in registration figures, electric cars actually scored well. Very good indeed. Against the current trend, almost 10 percent more new electric cars have been registered. This and more is evident from figures from Bovag, Rai Association and RDC.
In April, 28,432 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands. This was 3.8 percent less than the 29,559 units registered in April last year. Of those almost 28,500 new cars, 9,092 were EVs. That was no less than 9.6 percent more than the same month in 2023.
The market share of hybrid cars increased considerably. More than 44 percent of all new passenger cars registered in April had a hybrid drivetrain. In April 2023, that percentage was still just under 38 percent. On the other hand, considerably fewer new cars with a traditional petrol engine were registered. The market share fell from more than 32 percent in April 2023 to just 21 percent last month.
