Aloe vera gel is mainly used for the natural treatment of skin diseases. But it can also help with sunburn and even constipation. You can find out more about the effects of the gel here.

Aloe vera – also known as desert lily – is one of the oldest medicinal plants in the world. The leaf of the plant consists of three components: the leaf bark, the leaf juice and the leaf pulp from which the gel is extracted. Aloe vera gel is a popular home remedy that is used in various areas.

Aloe vera gel was and is still used today primarily for the natural treatment of skin problems. These mainly include:

    • Wounds
    • Skin diseases
    • Sunburn

The reason for this is the ingredients of aloe vera gel. In addition to water, it also contains vitamins, organic acids and glucose. Aloe vera gel has long been used in cosmetics due to its moisturizing properties and is processed into creams. However, at least ten percent gel is required in a product for it to be effective. This is especially true for sunscreens and après-sun products.

Aloe vera used to be considered a natural laxative for constipation. However, the effect on the intestines is anything but mild and according to Stiftung Warentest, laxatives that contain aloe vera are not very suitable for relieving constipation. In general, it is not a good idea to eat aloe vera.

Nevertheless, aloe vera gel should not be missing from your medicine cabinet. You can buy ready-made products, but you can also plant aloe vera to make your own aloe vera gel.

Aloe vera gel can provide relief especially for skin problems. This is especially true for the following complaints:

    • Insect bites: When applied to a wasp or mosquito bite, the gel reduces itching and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Simply dab some aloe vera gel directly onto the bite and allow it to take effect.

    • Sunburn: Aloe vera is a natural alternative to cortisone treatments in many areas. A medical study has shown that aloe vera is even more effective in treating sunburn and, unlike cortisone, has no side effects.

    • Inflammatory skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis: Many patients who suffer from psoriasis want to avoid long-term treatment with cortisone. Here too, the gel of the aloe vera plant is a natural way to counteract the symptoms thanks to its anti-inflammatory effect.

    • Burns: For minor burns, the gel from a freshly cut aloe vera leaf can have a cooling and soothing effect.

    • Dry skin: Aloe vera is also effective against skin irritations and irritations when used as a gel or in face creams. It also has a moisturizing effect. Aloe vera is also an insider tip for hair.
