BMW recently put a new top diesel on the price list of the 3-series; the M340d xDrive. Less than a month later, Alpina has prepared its own even more powerful D3 S based on the same version.
The diesel engine may look like its return; that does not stop BMW from just putting a nice thick diesel six-in-line in the 3-series. The blown 3.0-liter is already good in the M340d for a power of 340 hp and a maximum torque of a hefty 700 Nm, but according to Alpina that can really be done better. In its latest creation, the D3 S, this block delivers 355 horsepower and a whopping 730 Nm of torque. The Limousine accelerates from 0-100 km / h in 4.6 seconds. The Touring takes 4.8 seconds. The top speed (unlike the BMW M340d) is not electronically limited to 250 km / h, but is now 270 km / h for the Touring, the Limousine continues to 273 km / h.
As with the BMW version, there is 48V mild hybrid technology on board to get some of the power from electrical power. That should of course benefit the consumption of. The D3 S consumes an average of 1 liter of diesel at 15.6 kilometers according to Alpina (6.4 l / 100 km). That’s not surprising for a car with this kind of performance. Especially when you consider that all that power is released on all four wheels via the eight-speed ZF automatic. A limited slip differential also ensures an optimal distribution of the enormous diesel forces over the rear wheels. Not just any wheels, because Alpina gets 20-inch specimens from the stable with the classic Alpina look. Behind the typical spokes we see thick ceramic brake discs. Furthermore, Alpina has also slightly modified the bumpers of the 3-series and provided it with its brand name, as well as a subtle rear spoiler on the D3 S.
Alpina immediately opened the configurator for the D3 S. The S Limousine starts at a price of € 70,500, the Touring is available from € 71,900. These are still the German prices, so you can bet that for a copy on Dutch records there will be quite a hit of BPM. The D3 S probably comes close to a ton here.
