There have been years when the update was not synchronized, but following the example of the MT-09, Yamaha has also given the MT-09 SP a major update for the 2024 model year. As before, the MT-09 SP is the better-decorated version, including better brakes and better suspension.

It is remarkable, to say the least, that the MT-09 is already in its fourth update in its tenth year of existence, with the design having also been significantly overhauled. In the heyday of the Supersport era, it was the most normal thing in the world for a completely new model to be released every 4 years and an update every 2 years, but since then almost all manufacturers have extended the lead time of existing models by up to 5 years.
Not so at Yamaha, where the MT-09 is due for its fourth update for model year 2024. In addition to a new design with a revised nose, tank and seat (with a 2-piece saddle for the first time), the new MT-09 has an adjusted seating position as a result of the new saddle plus a differently positioned handlebar and footpegs.
For a better experience, Yamaha has done a lot of sound engineering and used an acoustic amplifier grille for that better sound, while the 6-axis IMU is now also equipped with a Back Slip Regulator, which is automatically switched off in Track mode. Furthermore, the MT-09 has cruise control, a new master brake cylinder from Brembo, a 3rd generation quickshifter and new adjustable levers on the handlebars. And a modified brake and gear lever.
Yamaha has expanded on this with the MT-09 SP. Starting with the paint scheme based on the YZF-R M1. At least as eye-catching are the Brembo Stylema front brake calipers, the gold-colored fully adjustable KYB 41 mm upside down front fork with DLC coating, the also fully adjustable Öhlins rear shock and the brushed aluminum swingarm.
Furthermore, the MT-09 SP has a keyless ignition, which Yamaha calls the Smart Key system, four adjustable riding modes for the TRACK Yamaha Ride Control and exclusive TRACK display in the new 5″ TFT display.
Price and delivery time are not yet known.
