Anyone who, for whatever reason, is not in favor of the growing number of Chinese brands entering the European and Dutch markets, can wet his chest. Another Chinese car brand is coming to the Netherlands: Omoda. Omoda is not only a Dutch fashion brand, but also a car brand from the Chinese Chery.

MG, Aiways, Hongqi, Xpeng, Nio, BYD, HiPhi, Zeekr, Ora, Wey, Lynk & Co: the list of Chinese car brands from which you can buy electric cars in the Netherlands or Europe is getting longer every month. Another major player has not yet ventured onto the European stage, but that will change next year. The Chinese car manufacturer Chery will bring one of its brands to Europe next year: Omoda. Is Omoda also coming to the Netherlands? Of course.

Geely is certainly not the only major Chinese car manufacturer with a huge number of brands under management. Chery carries its models in its home country of China under various brands. In addition to model lines such as Arrizo, Tiggo and QQ, it actually carries several brand names in the form of Exeed and Jetour. One of the brands that Chery has come up with for export markets is Omoda. Omoda was already used as a fashion line within the Chery ranks. For example, there is already a Chery Omoda 5. Export brand Omoda already carries rebadged versions of the Chery Arrizo 5 and Chery Arrizo 5 Plus in Russia and Mexico, among others, and will also supply the aforementioned Chery Omoda 5 simply as Omoda 5. The Omoda 5 is an SUV that is available both as an EV and with petrol engines. It is that Omoda 5 that – only as an EV – will come to the Netherlands in 2024.

The Chery Omoda 5 with petrol engines has a completely different front than the Omoda 5 EV.

Omoda has already presented its automotive products in Southern Europe, but will also come to the Benelux in 2024. Omoda – whose ‘O’ stands for, among other things oxgygen (oxygen) and ‘Moda’ stands for ‘modern’ – in its own words it aims at ‘consumers of the new age and with a young mentality.’ What that means more concretely: Omoda comes with electric crossovers and SUVs in the B and C segment.

In any case, the 5 Euro NCAP stars are already in.

We do not yet have extensive technical specifications of the electric Omoda 5 EV coming to the Netherlands. We do know that the electric Chinese variant has a 61 kWh battery and a 224 hp electric motor. The electric Omoda 5 EV has a front that differs from that of the SUV versions with petrol engines. In any case, the petrol versions are available with two displays housed together in one panel, each with a diagonal of 10.25 inches. It seems to be good for security. In December, the Omoda 5 – with a petrol engine – already scored the full 5 stars during the famous Euro NCAP safety tests.

Omoda and the Netherlands

Where can you buy the electric Omoda 5 EV soon? That is not entirely clear yet. A spokesman says to AutoWeek that the selection of dealers will start at the beginning of July and that the first explorations are currently taking place.

Anyone who is familiar with the Omoda brand name in the Netherlands is right. Omoda is also a Dutch fashion house. Those names do not contradict each other, says Omoda’s spokesman. Eea would have been legally checked and because the automotive is a completely different domain fashion there would also be no problems in the Netherlands with the use of the brand name Omoda for cars.
