Ji Yue 01

The expansion drive of the Chinese Geely knows no bounds. The Chinese giant is adding yet another brand to its gigantic portfolio for a change. Meet Ji Yue, a new brand that – if it comes to Europe – will undoubtedly get a different name here.

An article about a new brand from Geely can hardly fail to start with a list of the brands it already has in its portfolio. In Geely’s portfolio we not only encounter Volvo, Polestar and half of Smart, but also brands such as Geometry, Lynk & Co, Livan, Proton, Zeekr, LEVC, Radar and Farizon. Lynk & Co and Zeekr are the most recent additions to the European brand offering. In China, Geely now adds Ji Yue to his family.

Geely describes Ji Yue as a “premium intelligent technology brand’. Geely has hooked up the large Chinese tech company Baidu for the brand. Baidu will be responsible, among other things, for supplying hardware and software related to artificial intelligence, ‘smart interiors’ and autonomous driving.

Ji Yue 01

Ji Yue’s first car is uninspiringly called ’01’. The Ji Yue 01 is based on Geely’s SEA platform, a modular EV base of which you will find variants under the Smart #1 and #3, Volvo EX30, Zeekr X, Lotus Eletre, Zeekr 001 and Polestar 4 and 5. Technical specifications Geely is not yet releasing, but thanks to a dive into the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, we can tell you a bit about the car.

The Ji Yue 01 is 4.85 meters long, 1.99 meters wide and 1.61 meters high. The wheelbase is a decent 3 meters. The EV, weighing at least 2,240 kilos, will be marketed with a single 272 hp electric motor on the rear axle, but also with such a power source both at the front and at the rear. The Volvo EX30 and Smart #1 also have these electric motors. So don’t be surprised if the battery packs of this 01 match the ones in this pair. Will Ji Yue also come to Europe? Geely says nothing about that yet. Given the great ambitions that Geely has in Europe, we would not be surprised if that will happen in the long term.
