ANWB receives considerably more breakdowns than before corona

The Dutch are once again going out en masse by car now that the corona restrictions are behind us. It is therefore no surprise that the number of breakdowns reported to the ANWB is increasing. However, it turns out that there are also significantly more reports than before corona.

The ANWB emergency center has been called no less than 280,000 times in the past four weeks by Dutch people with breakdowns at home and abroad. In particular, there were many more reports from abroad, even no less than 34 percent more than in the last ‘normal’ summer before corona.

Most breakdowns came from France, Germany and Belgium. Travelers mainly called because of starting problems, warning lights that came on or a flat tire. According to the ANWB, there are also many requests for help from Spain and Italy this year.

The traffic service expects the number of breakdowns to increase further in the coming weeks. According to the ANWB, holidaymakers must take into account a longer waiting time before they can be helped. Travelers are therefore advised to check the car before departure.

Record number of breakdowns?

There is a good chance that in 2022 the number of breakdowns will break a record. Last summer, the ANWB emergency center was called the most often in fifteen years when it came to breakdown reports in the Netherlands. Last winter it was again busy with winter sports enthusiasts with bad luck.
