Apex AP-0 Concept presented

Apex Motor has removed the digital canvas from the newcomer who should have made his world debut at the Geneva Motor Show. We present: the AP-0 Concept.

Apex Motor is a relatively small manufacturer that, among other things, develops (parts of) racing cars. In addition, the English company currently sells the AP-1, a lightweight sportsman of the extreme kind that also includes cars such as the KTM X-Bow. This AP-0 Concept shows where Apex Motor wants to go in the coming years.

The first thing to notice is that the AP-0 Concept is much ‘more car’ than the aforementioned AP-1. Where the AP-1 has to do without even any roof shape, the AP-0 is a relatively compact looking coupe with a fixed roof. The AP-0 Concept is built around a full carbon base with a body made from the same lightweight material wrapped around it. No study model without an electric drivetrain, so the AP-0 gets a 90 kWh battery pack in its base. Despite that unit with a relatively large capacity, the English concept car only weighs 1,200 kilos. A range of 515 kilometers (WLTP) should be possible. The 658 hp and 580 Nm strong electric motor drives purely and only the rear wheels. According to Apex Motors, the AP-0 should be able to shoot at a speed of 100 km / h in 2.3 seconds. Its top speed is no less than 305 km / h. The battery pack can be charged to about 80 percent of its capacity in less than 15 minutes.

Naturally, the AP-0 is packed with gadgets and smart hardware and software. Apex Motor gives its study model an extensive package of Lidar sensors, technology that allows the AP-0 to monitor its environment. The AP-0 could at least circulate semi-autonomously (level 3). In addition, Apex Motor reports that the AP-0 has hardware that projects a homogram that functions not only as a display, but also as a ‘Race Instructor’. According to the manufacturer, the system allows you to practice how to drive the fastest laps on various circuits. The 4.38-meter-long, 2-meter-wide and 1.22-meter-high AP-0 stands on light metal that measures 19 “at the front and 20” at the rear.

The AP-0 is more than a harbinger of the direction Apex Motor wants to go in the coming years. The AP-0 should simply go into production in the fourth quarter of 2022. Apex Motor mentions a starting price of £ 150,000.

Like dozens of other cars, the AP-0 should have made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Virtually all manufacturers decided to still present the planned news, often during quickly set up or via online presentations. Click here for an overview of all the ‘Geneva news’.
