Apple announced four new iPhones on Tuesday evening as expected. These are the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini and more expensive iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
All devices get a Super Retina XDR OLED display and an extra hard protective layer to protect the glass, called Ceramic Shield. According to Apple, this has reduced the chance that you will get a crack in your screen if you drop your iPhone.
With all new iPhones you can film in Dolby Vision and all models support 5G, but only in the US are the iPhones equipped for the fastest form thereof. The so-called mmWave frequencies are not yet available in the Netherlands.
The new A14 Bionic chip should ensure better performance without compromising battery life. Both the CPU and GPU are said to be 50% faster than any other phone, making the new phones, in combination with 5G, well suited for gaming. Apple announced the hit game Leage of Legends for the new iPhone.
Lighter and thinner
The iPhone 12, just like the iPhone 11, will have a 6.1-inch screen. Despite this, Apple has made the screen edges thinner, so that you effectively have more images. Compared to the previous model, the iPhone 12 is approximately 11% thinner and 16% lighter. The iPhone 12 Mini will have a 5.4-inch screen.
The iPhone 12 mini has a price tag of $ 699 in the United States, while the standard iPhone 12 will be a hundred dollars more expensive. Both devices have a dual camera, with which you can take sharper photos, especially in situations where there is little light. In terms of storage, you can choose from 64GB, 128 GB and 256 GB.
The smartphones will be available in black, blue, green, red and white, with the iPhone 12 available to pre-order next Friday. The phone will be in stores on 23 October. The mini will be on sale a few weeks later, on November 13. You can pre-order the device on November 6.
iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
Apple also announced a Pro and Pro Max version of the iPhone 12. These phones have a 6.1- and 6.7-inch display respectively, a glass back and a stainless steel body. In addition, they are equipped with a LiDAR sensor, with which the iPhone can better estimate 3D and depth, but also quickly improve the sharpness of photos and videos.
This makes the devices a bit more expensive than the other two announced devices with a price tag of $ 999 for the Pro and $ 1099 for the Pro Max. On both devices we do not find a double, but a triple camera with a telephoto lens and a wide-angle lens, with 4x optical zoom. The cheapest Pro has a storage of 128 GB and the most expensive 512 GB.
The more expensive iPhones are available in blue, gold, graphite and silver.
In addition, Apple presented two chargers, the MagSafe Charger and Charger Duo, that improve wireless charging. With Charger Duo you can charge your Apple Watch at the same time as your iPhone, while you can attach the MagSafe Charger to your iPhone with magnets.
Finally, Apple announced a new speaker, the HomePod mini. This is a small and inexpensive variant of Apple’s smart speaker.
