Apple has just rolled out a long-awaited update for iPhone users. It is now possible to easily calculate a route by public transport in Maps, Apple’s mapping application natively on iOS.
This new function, deployed to all users, integrates public transport routes in many French cities. In addition to Paris, users can search for a route in Lyon, Nantes, Nice, Le Mans, Quimper, Dijon, Strasbourg, Nancy, Marseille, Metz, Montpellier, Toulouse, Rennes, Bordeaux, Grenoble, Lille or Tours.
In addition to subways and suburban trains, users can also calculate routes by bus, tram, but also by train via conventional rail networks (TER, TGV, INOUI, OUIGO). Here is how to use it.
1. Find a route
Open the app on your iPhone, then in the search box enter your destination address. Press Route to start the route calculation, and make sure you have selected Transport, at the bottom of the screen.

2. Choose a route
In principle, Plans should offer several routes to get you to your destination. Drag the pane showing the first route upwards to reveal the other possible routes.

If you wish, it is possible to configure your preferences for public transport. Tap Transport options and select the transport options you want to prioritize.
You can also display the other possible routes by pressing Other Choices.

When a problem is detected on a transmission line, Plans displays a bubble indicating Multiple warnings at the top of the window. Tap Show for more details.
3. View the details of a route
To get more details about a route, just tap on it. The route plan indicating the walking phases and the connections should then open.

If you have to take a complex route or move to an unfamiliar city, you will be able to start the route with step-by-step navigation by simply pressing the OK button displayed next to the chosen route.
