Starting today, Apple Maps users across the Netherlands can get detailed, turn-by-turn cycling directions for routes along bike paths, bike lanes and bike-friendly roads. Read here what these directions are and also whether Apple Maps cycling directions are available for your iPhone and/or iOS.

Many iPhone users in the Netherlands missed the cycling routes in Apple Maps. Until today, because from Friday, May 3, Apple Maps users throughout the Netherlands can get detailed, turn-by-turn cycling directions for routes on cycle paths, cycle lanes and cycle-friendly roads.

Cycling directions in Maps include:

• a preview of the elevation for a trip and whether the route includes a busy road, so users can choose a route that best avoids hills and busy roads
• real-time elevation data
• notifications to get off and walk when approaching certain intersections
• voice guidance so users can stay focused on the path ahead while enjoying their ride
• options to find a public toilet, a stop or a bicycle repair shop; share the ETA; disable voice prompts; and view a route overview or list of turns, all while following a route
• the option to select bicycles as the standard means of transport.

Apple Watch
The cycling directions on Maps are also available for Apple Watch. Existing cycling features specific to Apple Watch include an overview of elevation along a route, Haptic Touch for turn-by-turn directions, and Voice Feedback on speed and distance delivered aloud through the Watch’s built-in speaker.

Available for which iPhone and iOS?
Apple Maps cycling directions are available starting today (Friday, May 3) with iOS 14 or later. iOS 14 is available for iPhone 6S and newer.
