Software update 27 will go down as an extensive optimization update for the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, among others. System stability improves, connections are established faster and apps start up faster. In addition, the energy saving mode (Low Power Mode) has been noticeably improved for both iPhone and iPad.
The Camera app opens up to 30 percent faster, and the camera system uses less power when taking photos in this mode. For the user, this means that essential functions are retained, even in energy saving mode. You can quickly take a photo without your device reacting slowly, while the battery life is significantly extended.
Power saving mode better in iOS 27
iOS 27 contains major performance improvements under the hood that make the system faster and more efficient, including in power saving mode. The main technical improvement is a new CPU scheduler that handles background tasks better, especially on older iPhones. This scheduler ensures that the iPhone uses computing power more efficiently, so that older models such as the iPhone 11 from 2019 also benefit from the improvements. Overall system speed has improved significantly, with apps launching up to 30 percent faster and photos loading 70 percent faster.

Camera works faster
For iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, Apple has mainly optimized the camera app in power saving mode. The Camera app now opens faster and consumes significantly less battery when power saving mode is enabled. In previous versions, many camera functions were limited in this mode, but that is no longer the case.
Enable energy saving mode
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Navigate to ‘Battery’
- Choose ‘Energy saving mode’
- Enable the option of the same name

In addition, you can also enable saving mode via the control panel or using Siri. Since iOS 26 you can also use adaptive power on some devices, when battery usage is higher than normal, the iPhone will extend battery life by making performance adjustments.
Low Power Mode does this
Power saving mode on an iPhone or iPad temporarily reduces how much energy your device uses to extend battery life when the battery is low. The mode disables or limits several functions to save power: background activity such as retrieving email and refreshing apps in the background is disabled, the screen brightness is reduced and the automatic lock activates after just 30 seconds.

Furthermore, 5G will be disabled (but 4G), iCloud photo synchronization will stop, automatic downloads and visual effects will be disabled and on models with ProMotion screen the refresh rate will be limited to 60 Hz. You’ll see a yellow battery icon in the status bar when the mode is active, and it will automatically turn off when your device is charged to 80% or higher.
