Apple presents new iPad Pro

Apple presents new iPad Pro

Apple has presented the new iPad Pro. The tablet comes in two sizes, of which the large 12.9-inch model has a miniled screen. Both versions run on a powerful new Apple M1 processor.

Apple calls the 2021 series of the iPad Pro the 5th generation iPad Pro. So pay attention to this when you buy an iPad Pro, because previous generations have different names. The main improvement of the iPad Pro (5th generation) is the presence of an Apple M1 processor. That processor is also in Mac computers and is now debuting in the iPad Pro series. The M1 processor is much faster, more energy efficient and supports Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is a standard via the USB-C connection and allows you to connect a docking station or monitor, among other things. Many expensive computers (Apple Macs and Windows PCs) already have Thunderbolt support.

For the first time, Apple is introducing the iPad Pro with 2 TB storage memory. Previously, the limit was 1 TB. The new iPad Pro also appears as a 5G version, another first for the iPad. Older models optionally support 4G. 5G allows you to use mobile internet faster, if your provider and subscription allow this.

LiDAR scanner returns

Like the previous generation iPad Pro, the 2021 series has two cameras accompanied by a LiDAR scanner. It measures depth and helps with focusing for photos and augmented reality (AR), among other things. The cameras on the back should take better photos and videos than in the previous series.

On the front of the iPad Pro is a renewed 12-megapixel selfie camera. This has a larger field of view than previous cameras, so you fit better in the picture. Also with a group or when you go for a walk. The iPad camera will then follow you to prevent you from falling out of the frame. The iPad Pro has Face ID face protection again.

Two sizes

Another interesting innovation in the iPad Pro series is the screen. The tablets appear again with screens of 11 and 12.9 inches. The 12.9 inch model uses a mini LED screen that allows higher maximum brightness (1000 nits on the whole screen and 1600 peak brightness) than a regular LCD screen. The mini LED screen has 10,000 LEDs over 1500 local dimming zones. The screen should also show nicer colors than a traditional LCD screen. The 11-inch model again has an LCD screen with minor improvements over its predecessor. Both sizes iPad Pro again have a screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate and are suitable for the Apple Pencil.

New iPad Pro price and release

Apple will release the new iPad Pro in the second half of May. The 11-inch model starts at 899 euros and for the 12.9-inch version you pay at least 1219 euros. Models with more storage memory and 5G are more expensive. The most expensive 11-inch model costs 2279 euros and the most complete 12.9-inch variant is sold for 2599 euros.

iOS 14.5

Apple also indicated at the event that iOS 14.5 is coming to the iPhone and iPad next week. This update brings a number of new features, including a horizontal start screen, updates to the Music and Podcast app and support for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X controller.
