Apple pulls plug on Apple car

Apple has been planning to launch its own car for almost ten years, but that Apple car is not going to happen after all. This is evident from reporting from Reuters, which is based on information from insiders.

Apple is said to be working on an electric car under the project name Titan. The technology giant has never been generous with information about its car plans, but over the past ten years something about the Apple car has regularly come out. Initially, rumors surfaced that Apple would come up with an MPV-like model, later it was about an autonomous shuttle bus based on the Volkswagen Transporter. That also changed again: the Apple car should primarily become a usable passenger car with extensive safety systems. Apple is said to have approached Hyundai, among others, and the American company poached top executives from various brands. The calendar has now been set to 2024 for a while and the Apple car is still not here. It now looks like it won’t come at all.

Reuters and Bloomberg, among others, report from insiders that Apple has discontinued its entire car project. Apple would like to focus more on further development of the nowadays so popular generative artificial intelligence. At the height of Project Titan – around 2018 – around 5,000 people are said to have worked on Apple’s car behind the scenes.

Striking: the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi managed to come up with an electric car and Huawei and Alibaba are also involved in the car industry. The Japanese Sony also has big plans to come up with an electric car. Compatriot Honda joined in for this.
