Apple releases update for MagSafe charger: this is how you install it

There is new firmware for the 25W MagSafe Charger that is compatible with iPhone 12 and newer, and latest AirPods and Apple Watch models.

Update for MagSafe charger

The updated firmware for the 25W MagSafe Charger that Apple released is version 2A143. In the Settings app you will see a different version number than the internal firmware number. The charger in question was released in 2024 at the same time as the iPhone 16 models and can charge these iPhones with up to 25 watts. However, for the iPhone 12 models through the iPhone 15 models, charging is limited to 15 watts.

Because firmware updates are released silently over the air, Apple does not provide release notes. So we don’t know what new features or bug fixes the new software contains. Also, there is no clear method for updating the firmware of a MagSafe charger. In any case, the charger must be connected to an Apple device to even initiate a firmware update.

Check firmware

You can check the firmware of your Apple wireless charger by following these steps:

  • Place your iPhone on the MagSafe charger so that charging begins;
  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap General, then tap Info;
  • Scroll down and tap ‘Apple MagSafe charger’;
  • Check the numbers next to Firmware Version and Model Number.

If your Apple wireless charger isn’t listed, there’s a good chance the charger isn’t from Apple after all. So maybe you have a counterfeit charger. The menu also won’t appear if you’re using an Apple-approved MagSafe charger from another manufacturer. So keep that in mind too. A charger from another manufacturer that is not approved by Apple will not be displayed anyway.

If you want to be sure that you have a MagSafe charger from Apple, you can buy the charger directly on the website Apple website.
